Susan Vance handles a wide range of appeals and litigation support with special emphasis on complex commercial cases in the real property, financial, and energy sectors.


She has also successfully represented multinational corporations in employment and product liability appeals and has substantial experience in aviation, tax, livestock, and insurance matters. Susan’s understanding of complex financial and oil and gas issues assists clients in presenting difficult material to juries and courts.  

Susan is Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and served for   six years on the Board’s Civil Appellate Law Examination Commission, four of those as chair. She has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America each year since 2013 and in Texas Super Lawyers each year since 2010.  Susan was named among Texas Lawyer’s Winning Women in 2011, an honor reserved for only twenty Texas attorneys.

A summa cum laude finance graduate of Texas A&M University, Susan previously worked in the investment banking industry as a trader for a major securities firm and ran her own successful real estate brokerage firm. She earned her J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law, where she was Editor-in-Chief of the Texas Journal of Business Law. Susan worked for the Honorable Xavier Rodriguez, then of the Texas Supreme Court, and later served a two-year clerkship with Judge Thomas Reavley of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Licensed in both Texas and New Mexico, Susan taught appellate clerkship writing at U.T. Law for many years.  She is a credentialed mediator, is active in American Inns of Court, and sits on a number of local, state, and national committees in service to the community and legal profession.
